GivingTuesday-NOW | FaithFuel
A2S is responding to meet the needs of the A2S After School Academy in Benin City, Nigeria by encouraging supporters to commit to the monthly giving program, called FaithFuel, for as little as $30 a month.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for the A2S community, at large.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. May 5th is a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back no matter who or where we are.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the lives of those A2S serves daily in Nigeria. Because Nigeria is the most impoverished nation in the world, most living on less than $1.90 a day, the greatest fear many are facing is not only contracting the disease but also being able to find food. Nigeria is mostly a communal living environment, with people sharing cooking spaces and bathrooms. Although staying at home is challenging, the kids who attend the A2S After School Academy are practicing social distancing, good hygiene, and are staying inside with their families. These precautions are possible due to our A2S staff providing educational materials, as well as food, for entire families. We are holding fast to our mission to provide sustainable programs that generate positive change for Nigerian children and their communities. There is no better time than the present to join our mission by becoming a monthly donor. For $30 or more a month, anyone can join the FaithFuel community, which helps to sustain the A2S kids and their families, especially during times of crisis. On Tuesday, May 5th, we aim to grow our FaithFuel community of monthly givers so that we can continue to maintain COVID-19 crisis relief efforts for hundreds of children and families living in the Benin City community.
People can show their generosity in a variety of ways during #GivingTuesdayNow, whether it’s making a one time donation to A2S or committing to the monthly giving program, every act of generosity counts. This global movement will emphasize opportunities to give back to our A2S community in safe ways that allow for social connection while practicing physical distancing. Those interested in joining A2S’s #GivingTuesdayNow efforts can visit https://a2sfoundation.org and click on “donate.”
For the entire year of 2020, the limitation on how much of your charitable donations you can deduct against your income, no matter who you are or how much you give, has been lifted. Under the CARES Act, these limitations have been removed for Federal income tax purposes. Additionally, anyone who donates up to $300, whether they itemize or not, can deduct that against other income for donations in 2020 (considered an “Above the Line” deduction).
