Osasogie’s 2020 A2S Story

Osasogie is an A2S After School Academy kid. He’s ten years old and dreams of becoming a lawyer so that he can defend the cause of the innocent. Below is his 2020 A2S story.

The year 2020 started in church for me. We prayed and sang praises on New Year’s Eve, and I was pleased to be entering the year with my entire family in one piece. I prayed to God to grant me more wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to be a better student at the academy and in my school. Everything was going fine until the emergency lockdown in the nation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. My siblings and I could not go to school, and my dad could not go to work. My mum’s business was not so affected because she trades from home. As a family, we had to depend on my mum’s job alone, and it was not easy. We all started praying that the pandemic would be over soon.

A2S had a significant impact on my life and my family this year. The A2S food distribution program meant that A2S staff members distributed food items and sanitary materials to families in my area and at the After School Academy. My siblings and I were also given assignments in all major subjects to keep our brains alert as we stayed at home. Some schools provided e-learning facilities, but my school did not do so, but my parents do not have computers or smartphones to enable us to participate even if they did. The A2S assignment was a much better option for my siblings and me. Since March, A2S is still doing the food distribution program, and my family and others are still benefitting.

I am very thankful to God for flattening the pandemic curve in Nigeria and most parts of the world. I am so grateful that my family, friends, and I did not contract the deadly Coronavirus. I am also thankful to my parents for not giving up easily. My mother worked harder at her business when my dad could not go to work. I am also grateful to all the staff of A2S that kept calling my family weekly to check up on us and assist us with our assignments. I am also thankful to all A2S donors and friends who donate and support A2S during these challenging times. I love my book bag, water bottle, socks, and other school supplies I received from A2S.

I promise to do better in my studies and make my family and A2S proud of me. May God continue to bless A2S.

Love, Osasogie
