David: A Jovial King

2 Timothy 2:15: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

David is the first of two children of his parents, Mr. Peter and Mrs. Loveth. His father is a bus driver while his mum works as a caterer. Being born to the same parents and spending much time together, David and his younger brother, Prosper, are entirely different from each other and exhibit different traits. David prefers to stay around his mother while his younger brother prefers to play and spend time with his friends. While David is the talker, his younger brother exhibits an excellent listening skill. Yet this doesn’t stop them from sharing a special bond. Playing games and listening to music with his mom makes David feel alive and safe.

In a typical Nigerian home, choosing a career path has always been a function of the parents and a standard set by society. The case is different for one of our little champions at the After School Academy. David is a vibrant, smart, and multi-talented kid at the A2S After School Academy in Nigeria, who never shies away from opportunities to show his abilities. At 13, David derives joy from putting smiles on his friends’ faces, something he does effortlessly. He is a go-getter who chases after the things he desires and is never scared to express himself— an act he demonstrated during the just concluded Storytelling Project activities.

David is currently in Junior Secondary School 2. He loves mathematics but finds business studies difficult to comprehend. With a burning desire to become an automobile engineer, the poor power supply in his community makes it difficult for him to read at night. David loves to read, but with daily chores and activities to support family, he and his younger brother can only do so at night. Due to poor power supply, he and his brother often use candlelight or oil lamps to study.

Apart from loving automobile engineering, David considers himself to be a good actor and carries on several roles at will, both in school and at the After School Drama Club. At the A2S After School Academy, David will always be found in the library or with his best friend, Goodnews. His best scripture is 2 Timothy 2:15, a scripture he learnt from his mum. He has no role model, he just wants to, in his words, “be like Jesus.”

David wants the world to know that he is friendly and inquisitive. He loves to interact with people and make new friends. He is a born leader and never shies away from the chance to lead. He exhibits this during group activities in class and at the A2S After School Academy.
