In a nation where over 600,000 graduates emerge yearly with uncertain futures, Access to Success (A2S) stands in the gap– empowering young people to dream, discover purpose, lead change, and impact the world. Through our programs, we don’t just prepare scholars for jobs; we nurture visionaries for life.
At A2S, every story of impact reminds us why we are committed to equipping young minds with the resources, mentorship, and confidence to dream beyond limits. One such inspiring story is that of Elisha—a young man whose resilience and faith transformed adversity into opportunity, leading him to pursue educational achievements in a new country.
Elisha once worked as a fuel attendant while holding onto his dream of becoming a global scholar. His story is not just one of success, it’s one of faith, resilience, and divine positioning.
And what better way to share his story than through his own words?

Elisha’s Story: From Thesis to Triumph
By Elisha Ayere
My journey as an international scholar did not begin with an application but in the pages of my undergraduate thesis. My research on the “Psychological Impact of Incessant Strikes on Academic Staff at the University of Benin” was an awakening that exposed me to the deep connection between social factors and mental health, igniting a passion within me to delve deeper into the field of mental health.
In 2023, my quest for a master’s degree began with a barrage of scholarship applications. The process was a test of endurance, filled with challenges and, most notably, rejections. Each rejection email felt like a fresh blow, a wave of disappointment that sometimes left me in tears.
However, just as my resolve began to waver, a story on LinkedIn rekindled my hope. I read about someone who had applied over two academic sessions and faced more than forty rejections before finally succeeding. Their resilience became my north star, a powerful reminder of the importance of consistency.
I held onto a quiet prayer that after my NYSC, I would be preparing for my postgraduate degree as an international scholar. A day before my NYSC POP, an email arrived with a subject line that changed everything: a scholarship offer.

With the scholarship secured, my journey as an international scholar intensified. It began with medicals at the IOM center, a moment when my dream finally began to feel tangible. The mix of excitement and nervousness was palpable as I sat through the tests. Next came the meticulous biometrics appointment, which was a nerve-wracking check of every document and detail. Each step demanded not just precision, but a deep reservoir of patience and faith—a constant reminder to pray for God’s guidance.
The waiting period for my visa was perhaps the most challenging part. Each day after my biometrics was filled with anxious anticipation. By day eleven, I tried to convince myself that the delay was due to the peak season. Then, one fateful evening, the email appeared: “Your visa application has been successful.” My eyes immediately welled with tears of joy, and a swell of relief and gratitude filled my heart.
It was a tangible reward for months of patience, preparation, and faith. Throughout this period, the unwavering support of my immediate family, who joined me in prayers, kept me grounded. I also felt the steadfast belief of my mentor at Access to Success Foundation, who guided me with encouragement and prayed with me.
This journey has been a masterclass in resilience and the power of faith. I am deeply grateful to God, my family, and the Access to Success Foundation for walking with me every step of the way. Their unwavering support, prayers, and words of encouragement have shaped not just my journey, but my character.
As I prepare to depart for the UK, I carry more than just my luggage. I carry the confidence, growth, and gratitude this journey has gifted me, and a clear sense of purpose for this next phase. I intend to learn how to heal society by understanding its stories—deepening my knowledge of mental health and the social factors that affect communities. I aim to use the knowledge, skills, and network I gain to give back to the community that once invested in me.

This next chapter is not just about earning a master’s degree; it is about continuing to grow, serve, and make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
