Jeffrey, a resilient child.

Jeffrey lives near the Access to Success Youth Centre. One remarkable thing about Jeffrey is that at 11, he can tend to his immediate needs, like doing his homework, serving his meals, bathing, and going to school and the After School Academy safely. He also assists his siblings with their homework when his mum is not home. Jeffrey performs excellently in his studies too. His unique qualities might be tied to the fact that he is the first son and child of his family of two siblings and his hard-working single mother.

Jeffrey possesses a deep curiosity for the world around him, always seeking to know more. He is fond of asking questions in class, and his teachers at the After School Academy are so approachable and calm. His middle name, Oluebube, means “miracle worker,” which seems to foreshadow the incredible things he will achieve in life by God’s Grace.

Jeffrey is in primary Class 6. He is honing his listening skills and growing his knowledge in various subjects. Among them, his favourite subject is mathematics. He finds solace in numbers, the logical puzzles they present, and the sense of accomplishment of scoring high on his maths test. However, he would like to improve his English to speak more confidently. Perfecting his spoken and written English was one reason for joining the Literary and Debating Club at the After School Academy. He is also an active member of the A2S Media and has attended two important training sessions on photography and videography, set management, and writing with trained professionals like Ike Gordon of Ikeonic Images Photography and Tobore of TBR Photography. Even though he dreams of becoming a doctor, Jeffrey believes that no knowledge is a waste and that everything works together for his wholesomeness.

2023 has been a challenging year for Jeffrey and his family. After celebrating the new year in January amid so much joy, Jeffrey’s father, Mr Festus, passed on in February, leaving their family devastated. Jeffrey and his family had to move houses because everything reminded them of their dad in their former home. Their new house is small but closer to the After School Academy and the general market where his mum sells morning fruit salads. We pray that the Jeffery’s family recovers their joy and gains greater hope in God, our Father.

The After School Academy offers academic support and serves as a safe space for Jeffrey to heal. It has become his sanctuary, where he can temporarily forget his father’s loss and immerse himself in fun learning and positive friendships. The Academy’s compassionate teachers and supportive environment help him regain his focus and determination to prosper and help others. As Jeffrey immerses himself in his studies, his mother, Mrs Blessing, has started to rely on the fruit salad sales she manages to sustain their family. The Academy’s provision of quality education & school supplies, healthy nutritious meals and care enables her to save money and devote more time to her children and business.

Aside from Jeffrey having a swell time at the After School Academy, he particularly enjoys the healthy lunch provided to students every weekday. Jeffrey appreciates the nutritious meals, knowing they fuel his mind and body. With a healthy body and an engaged mind, we believe he cannot be overwhelmed by sadness. Driven by the desire to see his mother happy and his siblings excel academically, Jeffrey has developed an unwavering determination to become a doctor. He dreams of saving lives, making a lot of money and bringing joy back into other families’ lives as well as his. Jeffrey wants to ensure that no one in his family or community would suffer the pain of losing a loved one prematurely.

And so, we pray that Jeffrey’s life story will be that of resilience, determination, and the power of education to transform lives and the extraordinary powers of God, The Miracle Worker.
